Reliance Info to set up 280 relay towers

Reliance infocomm will construct 280 relay towers in the state soon to ensure complete highway coverage, said Parimal Nathwani, Reliance's Gujarat executive, on Sunday.

He said, "After the unified licensing system, Reliance Infocomm is making all efforts to expand the area under coverage and we are expecting a substantial increase in the mobile subscriber base in the state as well as in India."

He said Reliance did not hesitate in acquiring full mobility and paid the unified license fee of Rs 1,542 cores fixed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) without any delay.

Nathwani said even during the limited mobility era, Reliance Infocomm could capture 30 per cent of the cellular services market in Gujarat.

The company's market share is likely to increase substantially after full mobility is achieved and this is our to on the company's agenda, Nathwani said.

"We are also setting up 80 more mobile centers throughout the state to ensure coverage even in the remotest rural centers where no mobile service is available today," he said.

The mobile communication market in India still offers good opportunities for companies providing value-added services, he said.

Reliance Infocomm, in addition to its R-World features, is launching pre paid mobile services very soon, he said.

No service charges will be levied on the subscribers and they will get the talktime for the amount they pay on recharge.

"This will add more mobile subscribers to our more than 3.1 lakh subscribers in Gujarat and 5.4 million in India," he said.

Regarding Reliance Web world project, Nathwani said, "Our Web worlds will soon have an added feature of 'Java Green'. Reliance has tied up with a south Indian restaurant chain to provide coffee, cold coffee, ice cream and light snacks to the Web surfers," the Reliance executive said.
