Rising input costs have forced French auto major Renault India to hike the cost of its latest hatchback 'Pulse' by 2%, effective from March.

The company had introduced Pulse in the domestic market at the Auto Expo in held January at an introductory price of Rs 5.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Faced with rising input costs, the company has decided to increase the price of the Pulse by around 2% across India, Renault India said in a statement.

"The Pulse has been received very well by our customers and we have received a large number of inquiries. In the face of rising input costs we have no option but to pass on a part of the cost to our customers," Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif said.

The new price will be effective from March 8, 2012, and the hatchback will be available across 41 dealerships across the country.

Besides Pulse, Renault also retails premium sedan Fluence and SUV Koleos in the country.

When contacted, a company official said the price increase will not apply to these products and is only for the Pulse model.

Renault has a manufacturing plant at nearby Oragadam in a joint investment with Japanese automaker Nissan. It plans to have 100 dealerships and introduce three more products by the year-end.
