The company today said that the technicians at RNAIPL elected their representatives at their factory premises in Oragadam, Chennai on December 12, 2015. A committee of technicians overlooked the proceedings to ensure fair and transparent elections and the company facilitated the process by giving technicians the time to take part during a normal production day.
"The management of Renault Nissan respects the mandate of its employees and recognises the newly elected employee union," said a company release, which also listed out the name of the newly elected members of the Renault Nissan Employee Union.
The Renault Nissan Work Council has been an internal forum operating at RNAIPL for some time which acts as a liaison between management and employees. It may be noted that various trade unions and political parties have been trying to establish their union in the facility in the past.
The Oragadam facility currently has around 5,300 permanent and another 2,500 temporary employees including contract labours and trainees. The new union would represent the technicians, while the overall employee figures include staff in other categories such as white collar jobs.
