Imagine not washing your suit for almost a fortnight and still smelling as fresh as ever. With the help of its innovation team, the textile division of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has launched 'DEO2', India's first anti-microbial deo-treatment under its flagship textile brand Vimal.

According to Anand Parekh, president, textile division, RIL, "DEO2’ is a revolutionary anti-microbial deo-treatment that arrests the growth of fungi and bacteria on fabrics keeping it fresh and Anti-Odor even after day-long wearing in humid and warm climates. All the fabrics – worsted as well as polyester viscose suiting – woven at Vimal will be treated with this innovative technology thus making Vimal the only company in the world to offer it across its entire product range, at no additional cost to consumers."

While the company has applied for patent in India for the new anti-microbial treatment process, it plans to apply for the same in the international markets as well.

"We at Vimal stand committed to bringing the best product and technology at most affordable prices to our consumers. We have ensured that the DEO2 treatment is environment friendly and technologically most efficient. Today, with the introduction of DEO2, our unique anti-microbial product, we have once again affirmed our commitment," said Parekh.

The company, currently, manufactures over 21 million metres per annum of suiting fabric, all of which will be treated with 'DEO2'.

Elaborating on DEO2, Parekh said, "Tropical countries like India provide an ideal environment for the growth of bacteria and fungi on the clothing. These micro-organisms, apart from aiding infection, go on to generate the characteristic foul smell, and discoloration to fabrics. DEO2 treated fabrics do not allow multiplication of bacteria and fungi, thus preventing bad odor to occur in the first place. These properties do not wear-off for more than 50 home washes. The product is best suited for year round wear in Indian tropical conditions."

The newly launched, 'DEO2' will be available across all Vimal stores in the country, he added.

Vimal, the flagship textile brand of Reliance Industries, manufactures more than 12,000 design-shade combinations every year in polyester wool and woolen, polyester viscose and woolen fabrics under the Vimal brand.
