Rly earnings up by 16.73%

Continuing its growth trend, railways earned Rs 6,420.59 crore during April this year compared to Rs 5,500.40 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.73 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 3,680.64 crore in April 2007 to Rs 4391.55 crore in April 2008, increasing by 19.31 per cent. The earnings from passengers during April were Rs 1,793.98 crore compared to Rs 1,616.69 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.97 per cent, an official release said. The total number of passengers booked during April 2008 were 572.64 million compared to 538.42 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.36 per cent.
