Rothenberger AG, Germany's Rs 1200 crore pipe tools major, today opened its fully owned subsidiary in India.

Rothenberger India, the arm of the German major, plans to cash in on the booming infrastructure market.

The company is targeting the Rs 450 crore organised piping tool market, constituting 30% of the total piping tool market in the country.

Rothenberger Werkzeuge GMBH, managing director Andreas C Ehrler said that the company had plans to start manufacturing within next two to three years.

"We want to study the Indian market and would like to find which products have major demand in the country and then after after two years we hope to have a manufacturing base in India," Ehrler said.

The country manager of Rothenberger India, J P Singh, said the Indian office would also cater services to Saarc countries like Pakistan and Nepal. According to him a manufacturing base in India would be viable only after the turnover of the company in India goes more than Rs 30 crore.

The company is eying pipeline projects like Kerala Water System, Gujarat government's water supply project, to push up it's sales. The company also targets other industry segments in power, refineries, oil and gas.

Rothenberger claims to be a total solution company in the pipe tools segment of the machine tool buisness. It boasts 14 manufacturing bases with 2000 products and 150 patents to its credit.
