The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) is all set to reach its production target of 2.3 million tonne in the current fiscal after maintaining its growth momentum during the first ten months of year, company officials said today.
During April-January, the steel plant recorded production of 1.928 million tonne of hot metal, 1.803 million tonne of crude steel and 1.669 million tonne of saleable steel, indicating growth of 2.6%, 2.3% and 1.7%, respectively, compared to the April-January, 2009-10, period.
Production of hot metal and crude steel during this period was the highest achieved by the plant since inception, officials said.
Production of finished items like plates, hot rolled plates from the hot strip mill electric resistance weld (ERW) pipe, spiral weld (SW) pipes, cold-rolled sheets and coils registered significant growth in comparison to April-January, 2009-10, while hot rolled plates output was the highest since inception of the plant.
The steel plant added another feather to its cap by establishing a new wagon turnaround benchmark of 16 hours in 2011, they said.
