Rourkela Steel Q1 output hits record

During April-June 2008, RSP produced 0.544 million ton (mt) of hot metal, 0.512 mt of crude steel and 0.492 mt of saleable steel.

RSP clocked a growth of 8 per cent, 11 per cent and 13 per cent in its output of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel respectively as compared to the corresponding period of previous fiscal.

 

In June alone, RSP's output of hot metal stood at 1, 84,325 ton, crude steel 1, 73,390 ton and the production of total saleable steel 1,70,176 ton.

RSP also achieved its best ever performance in finishing units like hot rolled coils, hot rolled plates and Cold Rolled Non-Oriented (CRNO) silicon steel during April-June 2008.

RSP recorded a production of 3, 83,901 ton of hot rolled coils out of which the figure for hot rolled coils for sale stood at 1.87.479 ton.

In the same period, the steel unit's production of hot rolled plates and CRNO was 76.276 ton and 20,923 ton respectively.

RSP also posted an impressive growth in the production of other finished products like pipes from both ERW pipe plant and SW pipe plant as well as cold rolled products like CR sheets and coils, tin plates and galvanized sheets.

Following the completion of capital repairs of major units, RSP is now geared on the growth mode aiming for significantly higher targets in all areas of operation as compared to 2007-08.
