Royal Enfield has said that it has resumed production at its Thiruvottiyur and Oragadam plants which were closed due to heavy rains and floods in and around Chennai. The company has reported production loss of 11,200 units due to the rains. Of that number, 7,200 units’ production loss occurred between December 1 and 6, 2015.

“The company resumed production of motorcycles on December 7, 2015. However, due to a high rate of absenteeism by the Company's employees, and issues with our local suppliers, the company will be running at approximately 50 per cent capacity this week, and plan to be back up to 100% capacity by next week," Royal Enfield said in a statement released to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

It added that there has been no damage to equipment or property and that all its employees are safe, but that many parts of the supply chain continue to be affected.

The statement added the firm was monitoring the situation and that it would be able to assess the insurance loss once normalcy is restored.
