Royal Enfield today rolled out its first vehicle from the new greenfield facility at Oragadam, near Chennai. This will be its first new facility in 60 years.

The company has said that while initially it was planned to produce 1.50 lakh units a year, it will now produce 1.75 lakh units. The plant was built in a record time of 11 months.

Siddartha Lal, MD and CEO, Eicher Motors, said that this facility is a crucial step for the company towards meeting its global ambitions.

He added that the investment in the plant was around Rs 150 crore.

Lal said, "With the new plant and enhancing capacity in the existing plant at Thiruvatryiur, in North Chennai, the company is hoping to bring down the waiting period."

"If the demand continues at the current level, the company can bring down the waiting period to 6-7 months from eight months now," he said.

The company is adding 5-6 new dealers every year.
