ADAG company Reliance Power today announced the boiler light up for the second of two units of its 600 MW Butibori thermal power project near Nagpur in Maharashtra. With the commissioning of this unit by end of the year end, the capacity of this project will double to 600 MW, the company said in an announcement. The company is also hoping to commission the first 660MW unit at its Sasan UMPP by December.
An investment of over Rs 3,600 crore has been made in the Butibori thermal plant. Power generated will mainly be distributed to industrial as well as distribution utilities in Maharashtra. The Boiler light up for the second unit of the plant has been done in 22 months from start of boiler erection.
J P Chalsani, the CEO of Reliance Power said, “Reliance Power continues to create benchmarks and Butibori demonstrates our expertise and experience in building large-scale power projects. Also with the commencement of production from Sasan coal mines we are well on track to emerge as the largest integrated private sector power and resource company”.
The company has the largest portfolio of power projects in the private sector based on coal, gas, hydro and renewable energy, with an operating portfolio of 1,540 MW. The company also has the largest captive coal reserves in the private sector, estimated at two billion tonnes. Besides, the company is developing three coal mines in Indonesia and is also developing coal bed methane based generation capacity.
