RPower's Sasan UMPP achieves commercial operation 12 months ahead of schedule

The capacity of the plant is 3,960 Mw

Reliance Power announced that it has achieved 'Power Station Commercial Operation' (COD) by operating all six units of Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) comprising 3960 Mw continuously for 24 hours.

With this, the project has been successfully commissioned 12 months ahead of schedule of power purchase agreement (PPA). It may be mentioned here that five units of 660 Mw each totaling 3,300 MW were commissioned in just about 12 months.

The Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project is the largest integrated power plant cum coal mining project at a single location in the world involving investment of over Rs 27,000 crore. Coal production has commenced from the 20 million tonnes Moher and Moher-Amlohri coal mines associated with the power project, said the company's statement.
 

Reliance Power’s generation capacity is now 5,945 Mw, which includes 5,760 Mw of thermal capacity and 185 Mw of renewable energy based capacity.
