Rs 110 cr earmarked for handloom parks in TN

The Centre has allocated Rs 70 crore and Rs 40 crore for setting up two handlooms parks in Tamil Nadu, said Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating Silk Fab-2009, a national level exhibition-cum-sale of silk products here on Tuesday, Maran said the Centre had allocated Rs 70 crore for the proposed handloom cluster in Virudhunagar and another Rs 40 crore for setting up a similar park in Kanchipuram, near Chennai.

Work on Virudhunagar park would commence in 3-4 months and on Kanchipuram park in one or two months, for which land has been allocated.

The government has approved 40 textile parks in various parts of the country. Of this, 10 parks have been proposed in Maharashtra, seven in Gujarat, six each in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and four in Rajasthan, among others.

 

Each park would have 50 units and provide infrastructure to the industry.
