RSP bags Ispat Suraksha Puraskar in two vital areas

The award was given by Joint Committee on Safety, Health and Environment of the Steel Industry

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has bagged the prestigious Ispat Suraksha Puraskar-2010 for no fatal accident in two major areas.

The two areas where no fatal accident was recorded were Coal, Coke & Chemicals zone and Blast Furnace, Slag Granulation Plant, Sinter Plants & Raw Materials Department zone, RSP sources said today.

The award was given by JCSSI (Joint Committee on Safety, Health and Environment of the Steel Industry).

S C Patnaik, DGM (Safety, Environment Engineering and Fire Services) received the award in a function organised at Ranchi recently.

RSP's CEO G S Prasad felicitated the Safety Engineering team along with the Blast Furnace and Coke Ovens teams for the achievement at a function here.
 

He also emphasised on creating a safety culture in the steel plant so that the Steel Plant can benchmark itself with the best in the industry in the vital field of safety.

It is worth mentioning here that RSP has launched a multi- dimensional initiative to enhance the safety consciousness amongst the employees.

The 'Suraksha Chakra' initiative has been launched to achieve zero-accident on a sustainable basis with the mandatory participation of all employees.

Introduction of the best housekeeping & safety award in 7 zones is another important step taken in this direction. In order to eliminate road accidents inside plant premises, a fresh road safety campaign has been launched, sources said.

Concept of Departmental Safety Officer (DSO) has been introduced for improved monitoring of safety standards. Safety workshops for DSOs are being frequently organised and as per their observations safety issues are being resolved quickly.
