RSP ends 2009 with best ever output

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has ended 2009 on a high note, clocking best ever production figures of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel for any calendar year.

The steel plant recorded a capacity utilization of 110 per cent, 109 per cent and 120 per cent in production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel respectively in 2009.

RSP also posted the best ever performance in its hot strip mill in 2009 with a production of 1.54 million tonnes of HR (hot rolled) coils.

It registered a growth of 7.6 per cent in galvanized sheets, 14.1 per cent in ET plates and 1.6 per cent in cold rolled non-oriented steel in 2008.

 

Moreover, the steel unit achieved its best ever figures of coke rate at 539 kg per tonne of hot metal and specific energy consumption rate of 7.03 giga calories per tonne of crude steel.

S N Singh, the managing director of RSP said, the RSP collective in the recent past has redefined courage and conviction and I am sure it will continue to live up to every challenge.

It may be noted that RSP has recorded an impressive performance in the first three quarters (April-December period) of the current financial year.

The steel unit produced 1.67 million tonnes of hot metal, 1.57 million tonnes of crude steel and 1.44 million tonnes of saleable steel in 2009, thereby registering capacity utilization of 111 per cent, 110 per cent and 115 per cent respectively.
