The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved all time best production levels for month of September for sinter, crude steel and saleable steel.
The total sinter production of 2,93,423 tonnes, hot metal output of 2,01,010 tonnes, total crude steel production of 12,86,724 tonnes and total saleable steel output of 1,73,133 tonnes was the best in the month of September 2010, an RSP release said today.
These production figures also represent unprecedented capacity utilisation of 116 per cent, 122 per cent, 120 per cent and 126 per cent respectively, the release said adding production of hot rolled coils (total) and hot rolled plates were the best, the highest in this September since inception.
Combined with its performance during the month September 2010 RSP was able to maintain high production levels at major production centres during the first half of April-September of the current fiscal.
While sinter production touched 1,689 million tonnes hot metal output reached 1,136 million tonnes and the crude steel production stood at 1,049 million tonnes and saleable steel production 0,980 million tonnes.
Registering a growth of between 2 to 4 percent compared to April-September 2009, capacity utilisation in these units was to the tune of 110 per cent, 113 per cent, 110 per cent and 117 per cent respectively.
The steel plant has adopted the strategy of maximising its volume of production and improving its techno-economic parameters for bringing down cost of production to improve its profitability and concentrating on products in the line with market demand.
Simultaneously important techno economic parameters like blast furnace prodcutivity, coke rate per tonne of hot metal, coal to hot metal ratio, energy consumption per tonne of crude steel and water consumption per tonne of crude steel have all operated at the all time best level both during the month of September as well as in the period of April-September 2010, the release said.
RSP Managing Director S N Singh visited different departments and congratulated the employees for achieving the September production target, envisaged in the annual performance plan (APP).
