Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), under the umbrella of Steel Authority of India (SAIL), has posted its best ever production performance for the April-June period in the first quarter of the current fiscal.
During April-June, 2011, RSP produced 0.569 million tonnes of Hot Metal, 0.541 million tonnes of Crude Steel and 0.509 million tonnes of Saleable Steel, best for any period of April-June in the past with capacity utilization of 114.3 percent, 114.2 percent and 122.1 percent respectively.
In April-June ,2011 the finishing units of RSP also put up a sterling performance recording production figures of 1,16,213 tonnes of plates from Plate Mill; 4,03,163 tonnes of Hot Rolled Coils (total); 1,88,319 tonnes of Hot Rolled Coils (for sale); 79,233 tonnes of Hot Rolled Plates and 16,073 tonnes of Electric Resistance Weld (ERW) Pipes.
The steel plant’s performance in the techno-economic front too registered an improvement during the quarter in terms of coke rate per tonne of Hot Metal as well as energy consumption per tonne of Crude Steel.
The steel plant is working on the strategy of maximizing its volume of production and improving its techno economics to bring down the cost of production while concentrating on products that are in line with customer requirements.
