Finished steel production at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) clocked flat growth of 0.7 per cent in November this year to 164,026 tonnes while production in the first eight months of the current fiscal rose by 1.5 per cent.
Between April and November, RSP, a unit of the Maharatna company Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) produced close to 1.4 million tonnes of crude steel, with November production reaching 187,109 tonnes. The steel unit has so far crossed its annual production plan for crude steel,· said in a statement. It also achieved its annual target in the production of coke, hot metal , mill plate and HR (hot rolled) plates. In November alone, the steel plant produced 200,052 tonnes of hot metal and 45,085 tonnes of plate mill.
“Besides, in the production of HR Coils, HR Plates, ERW (electric resistance weld) pipes, galvanized sheets and ET Plates, RSP recorded growth of 5 per cent, 3 per cent, 27.5 per cent , 4.4 per cent and 42.4 per cent respectively over the corresponding April-November period of last fiscal,” the release said. Presently, RSP has the capacity to produce two million tonnes of hot metal, 1.9 million tonnes of crude steel and 1.67 million tonnes of saleable steel. The Rourkela unit is SAIL’s only plant that produces silicon steels for the power sector, high quality pipes for the oil & gas sector and tin plates for the packaging industry.
