Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has reported all round growth in production in the first ten months of the current fiscal compared to the corresponding period of last year.
During the period from April to January the steel plant recorded production of 1.928 million tonnes of Hot Metal, 1.803 million tonnes of Crude Steel and 1.669 million tonnes of Saleable Steel indicating growth of 2.6 percent, 2.3 percent and 1.7 percent over April-January of last fiscal.
Incidentally the production of Hot Metal and Crude Steel during this period is best ever compared to any April-January since inception of the plant. It may be noted that finished products like Plates from Plate Mill, Hot Rolled Plates from Hot Strip Mill, Electric Resistance Weld (ERW) Pipes, Spiral Weld (SW) Pipes and Cold Rolled Sheets and Coils also registered growth as compared to April-January of last fiscal.
RSP’s focus on improving various parameters has also yielded results. While Coke rate per tonne of Hot Metal and Specific Energy Consumption per tonne of Crude Steel was best ever for any April to January since inception, the steel plant set a new benchmark of 16 hours in wagon turnaround time in January 2011.
