Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited, continued its growth momentum in various sectors of production during October 2010 giving a fillip to the overall performance of the plant for the April-October period of the current financial year.
During October 2010, the steel plant registered output of 2,04,040 tonnes of Hot Metal from its four Blast Furnaces, 1,94,796 tonnes of crude steel from its Steel Melting Shops and 1,84,133 tonnes of Saleable Steel. These figures represented capacity utilization of 120 per cent, 121per cent and 130 per cent respectively and also indicated growth of 9 per cent, 11 per cent and 24 per cent over October 2009.
In fact, the production of Hot Metal and Crude Steel was best ever for any month of October since inception of the steel plant. In the Finishing Mills best ever figure for any month was recorded for Hot Rolled Plates from Hot Strip Mill. Similarly, the output of Cold Rolled Non Oriented (CRNO) steel from Silicon Steel Mill was the best ever figure for any month of October since inception.
It may be noted that monthly target for October envisaged in the Annual Performance Plan (APP) was surpassed in several production centres that included Coke Ovens, Total Sinter, Hot Metal, Total Crude Steel, Hot Rolled Coils (total), Hot Rolled Coils (for Sale), Hot Rolled Plates, CRNO and Saleable Steel.
