Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has continued its growth momentum during the first half (April-September) of the current financial year.
The steel plant has scaled an all-time high in production levels for any month of September since its inception.
In September 2010, the company's total sinter production stood at 0.29 million tonne (mt), hot metal output was 0.20 mt, total crude steel production was 0.18 mt while total saleable steel output was 0.17 mt.
These production figures represent a capacity utilization of 116 per cent for sinter, 122 per cent for hot metal, 120 per cent for crude steel and 126 per cent for saleable steel.
It is noteworthy that production of total Hot Rolled (HR) Coils, HR Coils for sale and HR Plates also were also the best for any month of September since RSP's inception..
During the April-September period of 2010-11, sinter production touched 1.689 mt, hot metal output reached 1.136 mt, crude steel production stood at 1.049 mt and saleable steel production reached 0.980 mt, registering a growth between 2-4 per cent. The capacity utilization in these units was to the tune of 110 per cent, 113 per cent, 110 per cent and 117 per cent respectively.
More From This Section
The steel plant has adopted the strategy of maximizing its volume of production and improving its techno-economic parameters for bringing down cost of production to improve its profitability.
The steel plant has also concentrated on developing products in line with market demands.
RSP has maintained production levels significantly over rated capacity. Simultaneously, important techno-economic parameters like blast furnace productivity, coke rate per tonne of hot metal, coal to hot metal ratio, energy consumption per tonne of crude steel and water consumption per tonne of crude steel have been the best since the steel plant's inception in September this year as well as during the April-September period of 2010-11 .
