In the battle for sponsorship rights to the Indian cricket team, the Rs 5,000 crore Sahara Group has been declared the man of the match.
The company proved to be the dark horse, acquiring the team sponsorship rights for approximately Rs 100 crore for a period of three years. The other two companies which were apparently neck-and neck in the race were food majors Nestle and Britannia.
The Rs 100 crore price tag is reportedly one of the highest paid by a company for sponsorship rights to a cricket team anywhere in the world.
