The country's largest steel maker SAIL reported a marginal 2 per cent decline in its January production at 1.12 million tonnes, a company official said.
In the corresponding month of the last fiscal, the steel major's production stood at 1.14 million tonnes.
"In January, SAIL's production stood at about 1.12 million tonnes, which is nearly 2 per cent less than the comparable month of last fiscal," SAIL spokesperson said.
Nevertheless, the capacity utilisation of SAIL plants was 110 per cent in January and its inventory position is for 30 days, he said.
There were no production cuts last month and the output of December-January were completely sold off, not adding to the inventory levels, he added.
