Chennai-based Sally Techpro Private Limited, today launched a new 'tyre saver cap,' a mechanical device that would indicate low pressure in automobile tyres.

The promoters of the product, are pitching the product as an innovative solution to avoid accidents, increase in fuel consumption and lower tyre life caused by low pressure in automobile tyres. The product is manufactured by another Chennai-based company, Vanamali Sales Private Limited.

The factory in Chennai has a capacity to manufacture 150,000 pieces per month. The Vanamali's director M Murugappan expects the company to achieve full capacity utilisation from the very first year of operations.

"Initially we would be offering tyre saver caps only for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. We plan to start production of tyre saver caps for trucks also from next month."

The tyre saver caps are priced at Rs.45 a piece. Murugappan said, "Once this mechanical products succeed, we would start looking at the possibility of introducing electrical or even electronic safety devices."

The company is in talks with leading automobile manufacturers both in the two wheeler and four wheeler segment to push the product as an original equipment (OE) product. "After initial inspection some of these companies have evinced interest," he said.

Sally is also in talks with regional transport office and the state government to make tyre saver caps mandatory for all vehicles. The safety factor would be projected as the reason to make it mandatory and implemented by the RTO.

T Silvarajoo, Sally Techpro's managing director, said the company's road safety paint materials had been used extensively by prominent national highways and state highways in India. "Next year we plan to consolidate our operations by amalgamating all the group companies and come out with a public issue."
