Samsung India Electronics Ltd has set up six large stores in Punjab to strengthen its network in the region. Chandigarh and Jalandhar rank highest in turnover.

Company Director and Vice-President (Sales) Ravinder Zutshi told Business Standard in Chandigarh sales of flat television sets and digital video discs (DVDs) were growing at a very fast pace in Punjab. But the market in this region had been lagging behind western India in terms of other products, he added.

He said preferences of buyers for innovative electronic products had been changing, albeit at a slow pace.

Zutshi was in Chandigarh to launch the Diwali Campaign "Pinning Toh Winning Offer". Through this promotion, where the consumer stands to win gifts on purchase of Samsung products, presents worth Rs 100 crore are being offered.

Zutshi said the company's projected turnover was Rs 550 crore during the campaign, and Punjab was expected to turn in above Rs 75 crore. The gifts will range in value from Rs 500 to Rs 4 lakh.

Samsung is spending Rs 25 crore on the publicity of this unique offer and anticipates an increase of 25 per cent in the sales as a result of this.
