Sandvik to make India global hub for const m/cs

Sandvik Asia today commissioned its new mining and construction equipment manufacturing centre in Pune.

Built at a cost of about Rs 6 crore, the centre will be the global sourcing hub for Sandvik worldwide.

The centre will make mining equipment including that for excavation of rock and minerals, Hakan Kingstedt, MD & president of Sandvik Asia, said.

The company will make tunnelling, quarrying and recycling equipment for use in the construction segment, GV Ramana Murthy, VP(construction equipment) of Sandvik, said.

The manufacturing facility will cater to rising demand from the Indian infrastructure sector as well as from other countries of the world, especially the Asia Pacific region, Kingstedt said.

The company plans to expand capacities at its plants at Patancheru in Andhra, Hosur in Tamilnadu and Mehsana in Gujarat, and expects to export about half its production.
