SAR Group, known for its power solution equipments under 'Luminous' brand, has firmed up plans to venture into telecom sector by providing energy efficient technologies, besides supplying passive infrastructure like towers and base stations used by the operators for offering wireless mobile services.
In the first phase, SAR Group has earmarked a capital outlay of Rs 200 crore for the next one year in its telecom venture.
"All the telecom operators have a very serious problem with operating expenditure as there is pressure on all of them with rising cost of operation. The core component of operating cost is diesel and energy cost. Operator's dependence on diesel is very high," SAR Group Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Malhotra told PTI.
The group has formed a new company -- Luminous Teleinfra Ltd -- through which it would provide diesel saving solutions to the telecom operators in the country, he added.
"We will give a combination of packaged power and renewable energy solutions, which together can reduce diesel consumption for the operators by as much as 70 per cent," Malhotra said.
According to some telecom operator's estimates, diesel usage in the telecom/DTH sites in India alone would touch three billion dollar in the next 2-3 years time, he added.
