Hyderabad-based Satyam Computer Services Ltd, the country's fourth largest software services exporter, has initiated a national football tournament in India -- the Satyam Football Challenge.
The tournament kicked off in Kolkata on Tuesday. In all, 4,000 college teams from the national capital region (NCR), Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal will be vying for top honours.
The tournament sponsorship reflects the company’s efforts to increase the role in football around the world, Satyam, the official IT services provider to the FIFA World Cups in 2010 (Johannesburg) and in 2014 (Brazil), stated in a press release.
The company is committed to organise the competition for at least 10 years to realise tangible benefits in the sports development within India, the release added.
