Hyderabad-based Satyam Computer Services, which has a decent exposure to the BFSI segment, is not planning to revise its hiring strategy for the current financial year despite the global turmoil.

Almost half of the 14,000-15,000 people, the company is planning to add this year, will be hired through campus recruitment, which is almost the same or even more than what the company was hiring through campus recruitments earlier, S V Krishnan, head, HR, Satyam, told Business Standard.

"We are sticking to the growth guidance given by the company (24-26%), and will continue to grow in the manpower front. The new additions will be done with a mix of campus and lateral hiring. We will add close to 40-50 per cent of the human resources through campus recruitment," Krishnan said.

Due to the uncertainties in the world economy, many Indian IT services providers are exercising caution in their hiring plans. Most of them are preferring lateral hiring to get specific skillsets for particular project and this also helps in reducing the proportion of bench (un-utilised manpower).

Srinivas Kandula, global head, HR, iGate Corporation, said, "Now we are seeing more accountability in the hiring of IT resources, whereas earlier companies used to hire a pool of resources first and then were waiting for the opportunities. The accountability includes what exactly is the requirement, where to place them after recruiting and what they all are going to do."

Satyam, which derives close to 17 per cent of its revenue through the BFSI segment, has exposure to major US-based financial institutions, including Lehman Brothers, AIG and Merrill Lynch.
