Schneider Electric banks on 'India for India' solutions to tap SMBs

This, especially, in server rooms space as the dependence of MSME sector on IT is growing by the day

Schneider Electric, a France-based multinational specialising in electricity distribution, automation management among others, is piggybacking on its ‘India for India’ (solutions developed in India for the Indian market) strategy to tap into the market potential that small and medium businesses (SMBs) offer, especially in the server rooms space.

“What we have found in India is that the dependence of the fast growing MSME (micro, small and medium enterprise) sector on IT is increasing by the day. However, the industry has been constrained by lack of end-to-end technologies, which is where we see a huge opportunity,” said Amod Ranade, general manager (data centre business development), Schneider Electric’s IT Business in India.

The company, which reported global revenues of euro 24 billion in 2012, derives 16 per cent from the IT business. While 30 per cent of this flows in from Western Europe and 27 per cent from the Asia-Pacific, North America and the RoW account for 25 per cent and 18 per cent respectively. It employs 140,000 globally, of which 10,000 work out of India, including from its R&D centres in Gurgaon and Bangalore.

As part of its ‘India for India’ initiative, Schneider Electric had launched ‘Infrastruxure for SMB IT’ in the first quarter of the current calendar. The new integrated physical IT infrastructure solution comprises a combination of UPS systems, server racks, power distribution units, software and cooling technologies. He stated that the rapid adoption of IT infrastructure like cloud computing and virtualisation even by SMBs had created a huge market for data centre and infrastructure management software.
