Seven out of ten actively traded stocks on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) witnessed an increase in price today after the Sensex reported its third- highest single-day gain of over 558 points. The Sensex gained 3.22% from 17,328.62 on Monday to 17,886.92 at 12.30 PM on Wednesday. Out of 2,665 actively traded stocks, as many as 64% (1,686 stocks) reported a rise in their market price. A total of 194 stocks from the frontline A group, 482 from B1, 420 from B2, 279 from S group, 200 from T group and 111 stocks from TS and Z group have logged gains today. NTPC, Reliance Communications, ICICI Bank, Reliance Energy and Reliance Industries from the Sensex stocks gained more than 5% each. Tata Power and DLF among the A group stocks gained more than 13% each, while Lanco Infra, Adani Enterprises, Aditya Birla Nuvo, Jaiprakash Associates, Mastek, Sterlite Industries and IPCL gained in the range of 5-10% each. As many as 272 stocks were frozen at the upper limit of their circuit breakers - 98 scrips from the trade-to-trade group, 70 scrips from the B1 group, 42 from the Z group, 33 from the S group, 15 from the TS group and 14 from the B1 group. |
