Chinese power equipment company Shanghai Electric Group today signed two agreements with CESC and is contemplating setting up a manufacturing base in India.
One of the agreements is for strategic long-term cooperation that might lead to joint venture for setting up ultra mega power plant and wind power projects in India, CESC Vice-Chairman Sanjiv Goenka said.
The second agreement was for supplying boilers, turbines and generators to the Haldia Thermal Power Project, a CESC subsidiary for a 600 MW (2x300MW) thermal power plant.
Goenka said the Rs 3,250 crore Haldia unit would be ready for generation in mid-2014.
"We have plans for a manufacturing base in India for power equipment through joint venture with an Indian company," Shanghai Electric Vice-President Zhu Denian said here.
"Currently, we are seeking government approval for setting up a company in India," he said.
Denian said the company had signed agreements, with 14 power projects totalling 22,000 MW in India.
