The finance ministry is setting up a mechanism for addressing concerns of various sectors under Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s adviser Parthasarathy Shome.

Shome will be available to meet at least two industry groups and associations every Wednesday after 3 pm and listen to their sector-specific concerns in the area of taxation.

“There is a merit in setting up an institutional, structured mechanism to hear concerns of industry groups. At present, we get to hear about their concerns only once a year during the pre-budget discussions,” Chidambaram told a press conference today.

He clarified the forum was meant only for addressing industry-specific concerns and not of individuals.
