Siemens India bags another Qatar contract

EPC major Siemens India, has won a repeat order worth Rs 4,000 crore from Qatar General Electricity and Water for the development of power transmission network in that country. The order was awarded to a consortium of Siemens India and Siemens Germany.
 
This is the largest order won by the Siemens power transmission and distribution businesses worldwide, a Siemens spokesperson said. Under the contract, Siemens will supply 25 new fully automated unmanned substations of varying voltages as well as extend 14 substations and renovate 10 older substations.
 
The project is expected to be completed in 22 months, the release said.
 
In November 2005, the same consortium had won a Rs 2600 crore bid for developing phases five and six of the power transmission network in Qatar. While phase five has been completed, six is expected to be completed on time, a company press release said.
 
Harminder Singh, director, Siemens and head of the power business in India said, "While Siemens India power transmission and distribution division will play a major role in the execution of the order, we have specialists and managers from all over the world working together to ensure that the project runs on schedule."
 
Of the Rs 4000 crore order, the contract value for Siemens India is Rs 3600 crore.
