Siemens is planning to set up a new steam turbine unit at Vadodara, Gujarat at a cost of Rs 30 crore. According to a release issued by Siemens to the BSE today, the greenfield project, which will go on stream by December, has been launched to coincide with the company celebrating its 50th year of manufacturing in India. "Spread over an area of 6,500 square meters, the new factory will manufacture single-stage and multi-stage turbines for industrial applications. All the components of steam turbines up to 45 MW will be manufactures locally. In addition, the newly facility will also manufacture key components for steam turbines up to 150 MW, and also provide after-sales and repair services," the release added. J Schubert, managing director of Siemens, said: "From a humble beginning of a small workshop under the Mahalaxmi bridge fifty years ago to 15 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities is a successful journey accomplished. Right from the beginning, we believed in creating local value-add and generating employment.
