Decks have almost been cleared for operations of the second international flight service from Visakhapatnam airport. Silk Airways would run a direct flight service from here to Singapore from October 1.

The first international flight service from Vizag to Dubai via Hyderabad was introduced two months ago.

Initially, the Indian Navy, which maintains the runway and air traffic control, objected to extending the working hours of the airport, which operates till 8 pm only. Silk Airways had insisting on operating till midnight.

“The Navy had sought extra staff for extending the timings up to midnight and the Airports Authority of India has agreed to sanctions 20 more staff. We, therefore, expect the Singapore flight from October 1,” D Varada Reddy, president of Air Travelers Association of India, said. Initially, Silk Airways would operate three days in a week, said Vivek Jain, country head - Andhra Pradesh, Silk Airways.
