Ravi Kant, managing director, Tata Motors said the small car project at Singur in West Bengal is on track, and will be ready by the middle of next year. Kant said here the company was working closely with the West Bengal government to sort out issues related to the setting up of the plant that will roll out cars costing Rs 1 lakh and the "project was up and running". Tata Motors had come to West Bengal with great risks and against all odds and it was for the people of the eastern region to decide whether they were willing to be part of the growth process, he said. Citing the example of Uttarakhand, where Tata Motors had set up a mini-truck plant, Kant said that the project had changed the entire dynamics of the region, which had emerged as a automobile hub. |
