Mangaluru-bound flight reversed to Kempegowda airport; 65 passengers and 4 crew deplaned safely

Jet Airways’ flight 9W 2839, bound for Mangaluru from Bengaluru, returned to the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB), on Wednesday after smoke was billowing from the cabin.

A full emergency was declared at KIAB for priority landing, following which the runway was closed for operations.

The ATR-72 short haul aircraft landed safely and standard emergency procedures followed. All 65 passengers and four crew members on board were deplaned and  safe,  Bangalore International airport operator said.

Four passengers were given first aid.

During this period, three arrival flights were held on air and five departure flights on ground. Runways resumed operations after 30 minutes, it said.

In line with the airport’s constant commitment towards passenger safety prompt and timely action from the Aircraft Rescue &  Firefighting team ensured that all passengers onboard the aircraft were evacuated safely, it said.
