Joining the race to reach the consumer as fast as possible, e-commerce giant Snapdeal launched a ‘same day delivery service’ here on Tuesday. Last month, Flipkart had launched ‘next day delivery service’ in seven cities.
The Snapdeal service is to begin with Delhi and the National Capital Region, at no additional cost, with delivery the same day if the product is booked before 1 pm.
Saurabh Goyal, vice-president of supply chain operations, Snapdeal.com, said delivery was a key component. “With the increasing competition in e-commerce, delivery has become an essential factor, after price... we can now offer this service with ease,” he said.

Snapdeal plans to expand this service in the next phase to other metros. “It has been about aligning our processes internally and working in better co-ordination with our sellers,” said Sandeep Komaravelly, vice-president, marketing.
But a faster delivery could be a challenge for a marketplace model like Snapdeal where the seller base is scattered across the country. But Snapdeal executives point out that the service has been launched after considering all aspects.
