Socomec UPS India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of French UPS manufacturer Socomec, is evaluating its options to start manufacturing its products in India. The company, which has a 14 per cent share in the country's UPS market, targets to capture 18 per cent marketshare and to attain a turnover of Rs 100 crore in 2011 with new product launches.

“Currently, we are importing UPS systems for our customers in India from France and Italy. We are evaluating options to start manufacturing UPS systems in India, considering the market growth here,” said Jerome Rodriguez, managing director, Socomec UPS India.

The plans are either to set up UPS manufacturing unit in its existing facility for electrical switchgear production in Gurgaon, Haryana or establish an exclusive facility in the country, which would require an investment of around Rs 30 crore.

However, the plans are at a preliminary stage and further details could not be revealed, he added.

Socomec has launched two new UPS products, Masterys IP+ and Modulys Green Power targeting the industrial and IT data centre modular expansion requirements, respectively. With the lauch of the custom-made industrial UPS, it is expecting to increase its market share in Indian UPS market from current 14 per cent to 18 per cent.

The current UPS market in India is around Rs 3,000 crore out of which almost 50 per cent is from organised sector. The company has its presence in the three phase UPS products in the organised sector, which is around Rs 750 crore market, said Rodriguez.

Socomec UPS India, which has a turnover of around Rs 70 crore at present, is targeting to reach a yearly turnover of Rs 100 crore this year.

It has 16 offices with company owned customer service centres across the country and caters to clients in banking and finance and IT sectors including Cisco Systems, Yahoo, Cognizant Technology Services and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
