Liquor manufacturer Som Distilleries and Breweries Ltd today said it plans to apply for licence for opening pubs in Madhya Pradesh.

The company yesterday launched its Woodpecker draught beer here.

"The launch of the draught beer in the state was the first step towards seeking permission from the government for opening pubs in the state," company's Technical Director S Lal said. The product was earlier launched in Bhopal.

The company with a turnover of Rs 300 crore has 42 products in the market and would soon launch the draught beer in other cities of the state, Lal said.

"The company has nearly 60 per cent share in the beer market in the state," he said.

Draught beer is a fresh product with natural flavour and contains 4.5 per cent alcohol, the company's Chief Chemist S Dixit informed.

Som Distilleries and Breweries Ltd has also been exporting products to London and other countries since the last five years, he added.
