Sonata, Sify, Panacea Biotech & Uttam Galva Q3 results

Sonata Q3 net up 68%
 
Sonata Software has reported a 68 per cent jump in net profit to reach Rs 7.1 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2005 as against Rs 4.2 crore for the same period during the corresponding previous fiscal.
 
The topline has also moved in the same range by rising 69 per cent to touch Rs 41 crore for Q3FY06. Sonata added six new clients during the third quarter and added 153 employees, taking the total headcount to 1549.
 
Said B Ramaswamy, president & MD, Sonata: "This is the tenth consecutive quarter of growth. It is a vindication of the growth strategy being pursued by the company."
 
On a sequential basis, net profit has move up by a healthy 27 per cent, while the topline has moved up by 13 per cent.
 
Sify net at Rs 7 cr
 
Sify, under India GAAP, reported a net profit of Rs 7.26 crore for the quarter compared to a net loss of Rs 10.96 crore for the third quarter in the previous fiscal.
 
The Nasdaq-listed company, however, as per US GAAP, reported a net loss of Rs 1.04 crore for the quartered ended December 31, 2005.
 
Revenues from sales and services for the quarter is higher by 27 per cent to Rs119.1 crore from Rs93.70 crore in the same period last fiscal, a company statement said.
 
The sequential growth in revenues over the previous quarter was 2.2 per cent. During the previous quarter, revenue stood at Rs116.51 crore and the net loss was Rs 8.2 crore.
 
The company has ended the quarter with a cash balance of over Rs100 crore. This excludes about Rs165 crore of net proceeds received in January 2006 from strategic investor Infinity Capital Ventures, it said.
 
Sify has also announced restructuring of its business into three strategic business units "� enterprise services, access media and portals, supported by the core technology group.
 
The company's president and chief operating officer George Zacharias, has put in his papers and would stay with the company only till the end of this month.
 
Panacea Biotech net up 81%
 
Panacea Biotec has posted a growth of 81 per cent in net profit at Rs 5.19 crore during the thrid quarter of the financial year ended on 31 December, 2005, compared with Rs.2.86 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
 
Turnover has grown 65 per cent at Rs 113.07 crore from Rs.68.56 crore of the corresponding period last year. Operating profit during the quarter under review was higher by 247 per cent at Rs.13.93 crore compared with Rs.4.01 crore in the corresponding quarter in the previous year.
 
Uttam Galva net dips 33%
 
Uttam Galva today reported a 33.2 per cent dip in net profit for the quarter ended 31 December, 2005 at Rs 16.77 crore from Rs 25.01 crore in the same period last year. Net sales stood at Rs 464.5 crore in the third quarter of 2005-06, a 11 per cent drop from Rs 524.9 crore in the same period last year.
 
Gross sales decreased by about 9 per cent to Rs 490.84 crore from Rs 539.58 crore. Total income also went down to Rs 465.58 crore from Rs 525.64 crore, a dip of 11.43 per cent.
 
Gross profit for the company went down by 18.48 per cent at Rs 29.19 crore for the quarter ended 31 December, 2005 from Rs 35.79 crore in the same period last year.
