Sony in talks with broadcasters for HD content |

Japanese durables giant Sony India today said that they were in talks with Indian broadcasters for developing High definition television and broadcasts. Sony currently has 80% of the high definition television (HDTV) market according to the company sources. "We expect high definition broadcasting in India to start by 2010 with the commonwealth games, hence we are currently approaching broadcasting companies for content creation as Sony already has all the equipment required for it," says Masaru Tamagawa, MD, Sony India. He did not disclose details of the companies Sony India is in talks with. The company is aiming to achieve 26% rise in its sales from Rs 2,300 crore in 2006 to Rs 2,900 in the current year. Sony will also be spending $35 million on advertising across its product categories as against $20 million last year. "Of the $35 million set aside for this year, around $10 million would be spent for Diwali," Tamagawa said. Sony also launched six new series of LCD TV models for the upcoming festive season, aiming to capture 25% share of the LCD market in India. "We are aiming 25% LCD market share this year by selling around four lakh TV sets," Tamagawa added. The company has also reduced the prices of its products by 10-15% under its marketing strategy for Diwali. The new range is an expansion of its BRAVIA series of LCD TVs. The range will be available in a price range starting from Rs 28,000 and going upto Rs 3,99,900. "These new range of LCD televisions is the embodiment of Sony |
