Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) will resume operations from May 1 after a gap of three years, company's chairman A C Muthiah told reporters here.

SPIC has remained closed since March 2007 as the unit did not have working capital and also Indian Oil Corporation had stopped naphtha supply.

Chemical and Fertiliser Minister M K Alagiri will formally launch SPIC's operations that day, sources said.
