Spicejet launches another round of low fares for flyers

Fresh round of discounted fares is applicable for three days starting today

Press Trust of India Mumbai
Kalanithi Maran-promoted budget carrier SpiceJet today announced another round of discounts, offering flyers fares as low as Rs 1,999 under a 'Monsoon Sale' scheme.

The fresh round of discounted fares is applicable for three days starting today on all SpiceJet flights from eight cities in South India, the airline said in a release.

The cities are Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mysore and Visakhapatnam.

Travel under this offer will be valid from July 11 to September 30, according to the release.

The fresh round of promotional fares from the eight southern cities comes two days before the launch of AirAsia India's maiden flight, which is scheduled to take off from Bangalore for Goa on Thursday.

AirAsia India, which is the domestic subsidiary of Malaysian no-frills airline AirAsia, is expected to give tough competition to domestic budget carriers with its ultra-low fares strategy.

"We are pleased to announce that monsoons finally hit South India with great discounts on flights. Lean seasons like this are the best time to travel for guests without stretching their wallet," SpiceJet chief commercial officer Kaneswaran Avili said.

The carrier has been on a promotional and discounted fare spree since January, when it slashed ticket prices by up to 50 per cent immediately after the lean travel season had set in.

Recently, IndiGo, too, announced promotional fares for just Re 1 on the Bangalore, Chennai and Goa routes, taking on the competition from AirAsia India's offer of Rs 5 fare (excluding airport tax and other applicable fees) offer and putting on sale over 15,000 promotional seats.
