SpiceJet's chief commercial officer Kaneswaran Avili has quit. He is the first senior to step down after a change in management in January.
Avili had joined last April and was instrumental in flash sales and discount offers. Before joining SpiceJet, he was a part of a start-up team in AirAsia and worked as the commercial head of Tigerair. Avili is leaving the company to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, SpiceJet said on Friday. “The verticals under Avili will report to Sanjiv Kapoor, chief operating officer, through their respective department heads,” the airline said.
“Cargo will report to G P Gupta, SpiceJet’s chief administrative officer,” the airline added.
Responding to criticism that flash sales were responsible for SpiceJet's downfall, Kapoor tweeted “those who think market stimulation was negative do not know the basics of revenue management. All airlines do it now. “
SpiceJet founder Ajay Singh along with other investors took charge of the airline purchasing Kalanithi Maran's stake in airline in January. It is believed the change in ownership would lead to further changes in senior management. The airline has sought government approval to appoint Singh, his wife Shivani and Harsha Vardhan Singh, adjunct professor of Columbia University as board directors.
