Sree Leathers chief Ashish Dey gunned down

Ashish Dey, chairman of Sree Leathers, was gunned down early this morning at Jamshedpur by unknown miscreants.

Dey, a resident of Jamshedpur, and his family were receiving extortion threats from groups in Jharkhand and other states.

Sree Leathers is based in Kolkata, and has over 200 stores in India, mostly in eastern India and three overseas stores in London and New York.

It sells and exports the entire range of leather products, and also items like shoes, bags, belts made from man-made leather substitutes like PU and nylon-based fabrics.

While the company refuses to share its financial details, market sources peg its turnover at around Rs 400 crore.
