Srei Infra to develop first light rail system

Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd has informed BSE that the country's first Light Rail Transit System will be launched by the West Bengal chief minister later during the day.

The Rs6,000 crore project would be developed by a consortium led by Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd with Czech-based Amex International as the technology partner and West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. The project would be executed in two phases and is expected to be completed within four to five years from commencement of construction.

The LRT project would have two corrdors, Joka-Esplanade and the Esplanade-Barrackpore sectors. "The air-conditioned LRT will connect the northern suburbs with the southern fringes of the  city through the central business district," said Hemant Kanoria, chairman and managing director, Srei.
