Thailand-headquartered Srithai Superware, the world's largest manufacturer of 100 per cent melamine tableware, will set up its first manufacturing plant in the country at Sanand industrial estate in Ahmedabad.
The factory will commence its operations in 2015, the company said in a statement.
The plant is a total subsidiary and has start-up investment of Rs 57 crore (US$ 9.2 million), the statement said, while Rs 229 crore will be invested over the next ten years for setting up four plants (US 37 million).

Speaking at the announcement of the plant launch, chairman and president of Srithai Superware Public Company Limited Sanan Angubolkul said, "With an aim to bring fine-dining ambience to homes, Srithai Superware India is looking to increase the wow quotient amidst customers in India through superior quality and fabulous design products made in 100% pure melamine material. These products are much-suited to Indian dining habits."
He further said that the company expects good growth with the setting up of a manufacturing unit in India as customers can get the products faster.
"Having a manufacturing unit in India, we are expecting exponential growth in the business as customers can get the products faster and at better prices."
The Thailand-based company initially entered the Indian markets in the year 2009 marketing their brand Ektra© range*, a high-quality range of Melamine products for metro living. The range offers exclusive sets like the soup set, the pasta set, the salad set, high-end dinner sets and many other such products to cater to modern food habits, needs and requirements.
