SSNNL awarded for hydro power project

State-run Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL), the implementing agency of Sardar Sarovar Project, has bagged Construction Industry Development Council's (CIDC) 'Vishwakarma Award' for hydro power generation in Gujarat.

SSNNL has set up one River Bed Power House (RBPH) and one Canal Head Power House (CHPH), with both of these having a combined installed capacity of 1,450 MW. They can generate annually one billion units of environment-friendly hydro power. Moreover, till the end of February 2012, these power plants have generated 2,283 crore units of power worth Rs 9,130 crore. In the fourth edition of the awards this year, CIDC selected 107 awardees under eleven categories wherein SSNNL's Hydro Power Project was selected under the category of 'Best Project (Power)' for its role in facilitating hydro power generation in Gujarat.

 

On behalf of SSNNL, its chief engineer (electrical and mechanical) UC Jain accepted the award from union minister of micro, small and medium enterprises, Virbhadra Singh at an awards distribution ceremony recently held in New Delhi.

CIDC was set up in the year 1996 by the Planning Commission of India and the Indian Construction Industry.
